Hills is Where the Toys Are! #forgottenfriday, #hills, #holidaymemories

For anyone who grew up through the 60s, 70s, and 80s in the lower North Eastern part of the US should have fond memories of the Hills Department Store. They had the best Christmas commercials! Every year at this time I always remember them and going to Hills and seeing their Christmas and toy displays. Oh what joyful times that was. I had a falling out of sorts with my family and no longer speak with them but one memory I still keep dear is every year my Mother would…

Baby Dancin’ Groot is a sure disappointment, #groot, #guardiansofthegalaxy, #gotg, #toys

SO they finally decided the world deserved a dancin’ baby Groot figure form the box office smash hit of the summer Guardians of the Galaxy. Two of my kids fell in love with Groot because of that finally scene and had they put effort into this toy it could have been great, instead we get a poor Groot imitation that doesn’t even move to the rythm. Here is the end scene from the film. And here is the pathetic excuse for the Dancin Groot toy. http://bcove.me/gm8fbv68 Now the retail price…

Forgotten Friday: Forgotten About Friday, #GiJoe, #RealAmericanHero, #AdventureTeam, #hasbro

This week’s Forgotten Friday we are focusing on and acknowledging HASBRO’s big finger to the toy that made them what they are today, GI JOE. This year marks the 50th, yes 50th anniversary of America’s Favorite Movable Fighting Man and in honor of this tremendous occasion Hasbro deemed it appropriate to all but forget that Joe ever existed. It was bad enough that they chose to only make a few sets of the 3 3/4 figures with a special tag on the box stating 50th anniversary, but just recently Hasbro…

Throwback Thursday!!! One of my favorite sites #throwbackThursday, #plaidstallions

Let me just say that we here at Watchtower Geeks have no affiliation with this site,  nor do we get anything for promoting it. This just happens to be one of my favorite sites to visit recently. They feature so many toy lines that bring back memories of growing up in the 70s and into the 80s. The one thing I really love on their site is the photo galleries of toy stores from back in the 70s. I remember going to stores as a kid and seeing these exact displays!…

So Dragon Models, a manufacturer of 1/6 scale action figures among other things is giving us the Groot toy we all want, it just doesn’t dance 🙁   Here is the press release from Marvel Toy News: http://marveltoynews.com/baby-groot-life-size-model-announced-dragon-studios/ Really nice rendition of the wooden one, hopefully Marvel will ask Dragon Models to create one that dances to “I Want You Back!”   Geek Ed

Construx – Childhood Building Dreams #forgottenfriday #toys

A few days ago, I had a discussion with Geek Ed about childhood building dreams. Legos, Lincoln Logs, Tinker Toys… I remember spending an entire day, building a town; in order to destroy it. After the conversation, all I wanted to do was use my work conference room to build a city. Yes, I would do it. I don’t care how old I am. The greatest memories I have of a child, were building battlefields and weapons! This, of course, could not have been accomplished without one the greatest products…

Forgotten Friday – Outer-Space Station #forgottenfriday #geekhistory

Forgotten Friday: In 1978 Kenner was releasing toys based on the ever popular Star Wars movie that had released a year prior, space themed toys started taking over toy isles and kids everywhere wanted to be a Jedi or Space Pilot. I had a good stash of the original Star Wars stuff as a kid, between my brother, two cousins, and myself we probably nearly all of the figures and most of the play-sets released for the movie. We never had a space station though…… In the mid 90’s when…

My childhood toys ruined it for my kids

As I wandered through the toy department of my local big box store today waiting for a prescription to be filled; I came to the realization that my awesome childhood toys of the 70’s and 80’s ruined toys for my kids. I won’t argue; the late 70’s and the 80’s were amazing with the toy lines that were created, many of which were designed and marketed, and then followed by a TV show, cartoon, or comic series. The toy shelves were filled with toys that covered every genre and captured…
