This Summer Will Be Huge for Game of Thrones
The highly anticipated seventh season of Game of Thrones is around the corner. As the last season finished with Daenerys, her dragons, and her massive army setting sail for Westeros, we expect huge things to go down. More photos and other promo materials are starting to come down the pipe, and people are starting to put together the puzzle pieces for what could happen in season seven.
The first photos from season seven have been revealed, and they already have fans salivating and speculating on what they could all mean. There’s a lot to take in, but it’s definitely given fans something to chew on while they wait for the premier. Here are some of our own ideas for what to expect when Game of Thrones returns this summer. This might have a few spoilers for people that haven’t watched season six yet, so consider yourself warned.
Family Comes First for Jaime
One of the first things that fans noticed was that apparently the family that slays together, stays together. At the end of season six, it looked as though Jaime Lannister was less than comfortable with his sister Cersei’s cutthroat revenge against everyone that had wronged her. Still, it would see that he continues to (literally) stand by his sister, as he’s right next to her when she sits on the Iron Throne. There’s a lot to question about his future loyalty, but for the time being he’s sticking by his sister.
Daenerys Will Arrive This Season
We also know from several shots that Daenerys will actually make landfall during season seven, and thank goodness. We were worried they might have her spend the whole season on the high seas. There’s no telling exactly where she landed, but it doesn’t appear to be the capital city of King’s Landing. There are rumors that she could be in Dragonstone (off the coast of Westeros) or could be in Dorne trying to find sympathetic families to join her cause, but we’ll have to wait for more evidence. What’s important is that she’s going to arrive in the next season. Now where is that gigantic army that was with her?
A Lot of Stories Will Wrap Up
While there’s plenty to be seen before the new season is here, it’s good to know that big things will be happening. That means we won’t be saddled with a lot of filler episodes. There’s not much time left to wrap up all the story lines, so things should move pretty quickly from here on out. Season six got the ball rolling by killing off a whole lot of people in its final episodes, and we expect much of the same to go down this time around.
Outside of the two main plot lines, there’s a lot that needs to be resolved. Arya is back in Westeros and we have no idea who’s going to be next on her list after taking revenge on Meryn Trant and Walder Frey. Could it be Cersei? We’ve also got the whole battle for who’s going to be the ruler of the Iron Islands now that Theon and his sister have escaped the clutches of their uncle. On top of that, there’s the matter of the coup d’etat in Dorne and a host of other plot lines that are just dangling around. We expect most of those to be tied up rather quickly. The show is ending with the eighth season in 2018, and this has many wondering what will become of their favorite houses and characters when it’s finally off the air.
We Could Get The Game We’ve Been Waiting For
We never gave up hope that the world of Westeros might continue to live on in a great video game before the show finished. There have been a few attempts at action games in the past, but they got mixed reviews at best and couldn’t capture the feel of the show. There was even licensed slot reel included with the offerings available from the biggest online casinos where fans can take their chances with four of the great houses from the series. The reel includes many other sights and sounds from the show, but it’s not exactly what fans have been looking for.
Thankfully, we also just learned that some dedicated GoT devotees have taken matters into their own hands. One modder is making a Game of Thrones Adaptation for Skyrim where players will be able to recruit other characters and find many of their favorite heroes and villains in their quest for the Iron Throne. The mod will be available for both Skyrim and Skyrim Special Edition. The trailer looks really promising and Skyrim always felt like the closest we’d ever get to the GoT game we really wanted. The mod is currently in beta testing with no firm date for when it will be completed.
Despite all the questions, you can bet on the world of Westeros being turned upside down. On one side you have Daenerys and her army arriving; and on the other there’s the Night’s King and his White Walkers knocking on the wall. No matter what happens, things will never be the same. Season seven of Game of Thrones kicks off July 16, 2017.
